Design Thinking, In Medical School
Our students learn creative problem solving so that they will be better prepared to solve the difficult challenges that we face in healthcare.
The brainchild of the Provost and Dean, Dr. Mark Tykocinski, The Jefferson College Within a College (CWiC) program was developed as the first co-curricular design thinking program in a US medical school. CWiC-Design (aka. JeffDESIGN) was founded in 2015 and grew to 52 students across 3 classes at Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC).
In 2017, JeffDESIGN became a fully curricular element within the Scholarly Inquiry thread of the new JeffMD curriculum and accepted the first cohort of 25 SKMC Medicine+Design students who decided that they wanted design to be a part of their medical education.
